Tummy Tuck Vs. Liposuction

If you’ve lost a significant amount of weight or are having trouble getting your body back in shape post childbirth and have excess abdominal skin, you may be looking to get plastic surgery. Both Tummy Tucks and Liposuction have been known to help address the midsection, but which procedure would work best for you?

Both procedures can help achieve a flatter, smooth stomach. Results can be long-term; however, weight gain can impact the results for both procedures. Although both procedures help improve the look of your midsection, they are different in their results the way the procedures are done.

With Liposuction, excess fat is permanently removed from the body through small incisions that will leave minimal scarring. During a Tummy Tuck, excess skin is permanently removed, and the abdominal wall is tightened. Because this surgery is more invasive, there is a more prominent, more visible scar along the lower stomach.

Liposuction

Liposuction is ideal for patients with excess body fat as the procedure removes small fat deposits to help reduce bulges and improve contour. While Liposuction can be great at removing stubborn fat in the abdominal area, it can be great for other areas such as hips, arms, thighs, and more. It’s important to keep in mind that this procedure is perfect for emptying the skin but not for tightening the skin.

Ultimately, Liposuction is surgery and requires a recovery period, but compared to other procedures, this recovery is shorter and easier. This procedure isn’t a weight loss solution. Instead, it is a treatment option for those stubborn fat pockets that won’t go away through regular diet and exercise.

Tummy Tuck

While Liposuction is an excellent option for patients with stubborn body fat, a tummy tuck procedure is ideal for those patients looking to eliminate excess skin in the abdominal region while tightening muscle. Because your muscles in your abdominal wall are being sewn together and your skin is being pulled to be tightened over your abdomen, this procedure is more extensive and requires a more extended recovery period.

Like with other plastic surgery procedures, it is possible to have both a tummy tuck and a liposuction procedure done simultaneously. If necessary, doing both procedures at once will result in a particular recovery period. However, it’s essential to talk through the advantages and disadvantages of having both procedures done at the same time with your plastic surgeon.
