Does Doing Squats Make your Butt Bigger?

2019 is the year of the booty. We have the Kardashians and Instagram to thank of that. So for women (and men) born without this natural asset, how can a shapely buttocks be achieved?

One popular and effective way to achieve a shapely bottom is a Brazilian butt lift, also known as a BBL. The fat transfer procedure, performed regularly by each of Mia Aesthetics’ board-certified surgeons, is able to sculpt the body and move fat from the stomach, back and waist to the hips and butt area. But aside from surgical enhancement, there is another commonly held theory on how to increase the size of your buttocks: doing squats. But does doing squats really make your butt bigger?

The quick answer? Not exactly. What squats CAN do is tone you up. If you are on an exercise regimen that is causing you to lose body fat, then squats will likely make your butt look smaller. On the contrary, if you are on a nutrition plan and workout regimen that causes you to gain weight in muscle, your butt will likely get bigger.

However, there is still a lot to gain from doing squats – even if you do also decide to opt for the dramatic, shaping effects a Brazilian butt lift can provide.

1. Buttocks Toning and Shape Building
The muscles in your buttocks play a large role in the shape your buttocks takes. People who are more muscular tend to have a perky, round shape to their buttocks. Even if you are naturally endowed with a large bottom half, doing squats can help you create an enviable, round and uplifted shape that is beach ready.

2. Core Strength
Aside from the obvious muscle groups targeted by squats, such as the glutes and thighs, squats also help tone up your abdominal region. The entire core – abdominals, lower back and obliques – are all engaged while you do squats. Keeping your core contracted nice and tight during your squats is a great way to get the most benefit out of the squats for your core, and it also helps protect your back.

3. Fat Burning
Doing squats is a great way to burn fat – especially if you are considering a Brazilian butt lift in the future and want to be in the best shape of your life beforehand. The exercise is a great calorie burner, and done effectively, can help you achieve your goal weight.

4. Cellulite Reduction
Yes – squats can help get rid of cellulite. Squats, when part of a smart fitness program and healthy eating, can help get rid of cellulite. Not that cellulite is necessarily something to lose sleep over, considering most of us have it and it does not indicate how healthy you are.

Overall, the answer to the commonly asked question: Does doing squats make your butt bigger? Is a resounding no. That’s not to say there aren’t many other wonderful benefits to gain from adding squats to your exercise regimen. Coupled with a BBL, doing squats and eating right can all get you even closer to achieving the body and booty of your dreams.
