For mommies who want their pre-baby bodies back, the Mommy Makeover was created for you. Having a child is a loving, life-changing experience, but it doesn’t mean you’ll love the changes motherhood brings to your appearance…like shrunken breasts or a loose abdomen.
Yes, some women will simply “bounce back” after pregnancy, but others do not, despite dieting and exercising. Multiple and back-to-back pregnancies take a toll. Later in life pregnancy also make it harder for a body to recover its form. And for some women, it’s just genetic. Whatever the reason, today’s woman has decided that motherhood is no reason not to look and feel as beautiful as ever.
The Classic Mommy Makeover involves a tummy tuck + breast lift or augmentation combination done at the same time…targeting the two areas most affected by pregnancy. But depending on the patient, a mommy makeover could include:
- Mini Tummy Tuck
- Vaginal Rejuvenation
- Vein Removal
- Cellulite Treatment
- Thigh Lift
There are many good cosmetic surgeons out there, and we at mia Aesthetics believe you owe it to yourself to meet with a few highly-qualified, board-certified doctors to find the one who is right for you. At our free consultation, you’ll get valuable one-on-one time with our surgeon. This is your time to express your beauty goals, get your health evaluated, and learn what our expert believes would be the best approach to get your pre-baby body back. Feel free to bring photos of “the old you” and ask questions. This is an important opportunity for you to develop trust and rapport with the doctor, who has to inspire your confidence and understand your vision for what you want to get out of your mommy makeover.
A mommy makeover candidate should be done having children because a future pregnancy could undo some of the work. If you’re unsure, ask the surgeon which procedures are “baby proof” and which may require future revisions if another baby pops into your life. For example, breast augmentation typically holds up, while a tummy tuck may be reversed.
Women should be in generally good health – and here’s the big caveat – Mommies need to arrange for help with mommy duties and refrain from carrying children or overexerting themselves during the recovery period. If a woman is a smoker, she should quit for several weeks leading up to surgery and through the recovery process in order to promote faster healing and minimize complications. Blood thinners and aspirin prior to surgery is a no-no, and your doctor may recommend a high-protein diet.
A mommy makeover may take 3 to 6 hours. Accurate surgery times vary depending on how many procedures are involved in your mommy makeover. There are many types of anesthesia but most mommy makeovers happen under general anesthesia because it is considered the safest for procedures longer than two hours. Mommy makeovers often take place in a hospital and may require a post-operative overnight stay at the hospital or at an aftercare facility, but this is something you will determine in advance with your surgeon.
This is the part where a mommy has to prioritize taking care of herself. Everyone heals at her own built-in rate. For an ‘average’ mommy makeover, patients can usually drive by 1 week, walk five miles on a flat surface at 2 weeks, and run after 4 weeks. Hard workouts generally won’t start until about week 6. Some women will feel ready to return to work after one week, but most women need two to four weeks.
You should not lift more than 5 pounds during the first 3-4 weeks after breast surgery, and following a tummy tuck, avoid twisting motions and using your core for 4-6 weeks. Pre-arranging help at home will be essential – for routine daily activities like getting the kids ready for school, making lunches, making dinner, and driving children to and from appointments. Other recommendations: Splurging on a cleaning service, and making meals ahead of time and freezing them to enable quick, easy dinners during your recovery.
You will have some physical discomfort, swelling and pain, so compression garments and medication will go home with you. But primarily you will feel TIRED. You won’t have your usual energy levels and your body will need more sleep than usual. Help from your family and friends will make your recovery much more successful, especially if you have small children.
Choosing the Right Surgeon
The surgeons at mia Aesthetics are across-the-board experts in plastic surgery and non-surgical beauty treatments, making them extremely qualified to evaluate you and recommend the best, most advanced and safest procedures to restore your body to its pre-pregnancy glory. While there are many excellent cosmetic surgeons in Miami, we at mia Aesthetics believe you should do your homework, seek only board-qualified doctors, gather recommendations, do your research, and meet with several potential surgeons before making your final decision. Your doctor should inspire your trust and convey a clear understanding of your beauty goals for your mommy makeover.
Do I need to do all my procedures at once?
Short answer, no. But combining the procedures is less expensive and means you’ll only go through the recovery process once, which is convenient for women on the go!
Will I be able to breastfeed again after breast surgery?
It is hard to accurately gauge because some women are able to and some are not, while some women cannot breastfeed even before undergoing surgery. Most doctors avoid damaging the areola and the nerves connected to it to allow for future breastfeeding.
Am I a good candidate for a Mommy Makeover?
Patients who wish to recover their pre-pregnancy body shape are the right candidates for a Mommy Makeover. To qualify, patients should be at least 21 & enjoy good health. Our doctor will evaluate your health recommend procedures based on your body type and goals. The best candidates are also committed to eating healthfully before and after the procedure to maintaining results and are willing to truly rest during the critical recuperation period to get the maximum results and avoid complications.
Can I get a Mommy Makeover without a tummy tuck?
Yes. You and your doctor can combine different types of procedures based on what you want and need. Some women only need a breast lift + lipo. Some may want a breast augmentation + a thigh lift. A mini-tummy tuck is also an option to a full tummy tuck. At mia Aesthetics, there is no “standard” or “cookie cutter” approach. Your Mommy Makeover will be what it needs to be for you.
