What Is Body Sculpting?
Body sculpting usually involves liposuction in combination with one or more other procedures such as a thigh lift, arm lift, buttock lift, tummy tuck, and breast lift or enhancement. Which procedures are involved in your body sculpting will be unique to your body and personal beauty goals. Candidates for body sculpting have usually undergone major weight loss and have excess skin and tissue they would like to carve and sculpt to fit their new, smaller body.
About The Body Sculpting Procedure
Because of the many areas involved in a body sculpting procedure and the complexity of doing several procedures at once, surgery can take five to seven hours. Ahead of surgery, your plastic surgeon will carefully photograph and mark the areas to be treated as a guide during the procedure.
Your doctor may recommend a home care system before surgery and may require you to stop taking certain medications up to two weeks before the body sculpting. Smokers will be asked to stop smoking in order to allow the body to heal properly after surgery.
Body Sculpting Recovery
After surgery, patients should stay at the clinic overnight to receive intravenous pain medication and for postoperative care. Painkillers prescribed by your surgeon can help ease any discomfort following surgery, along with bandages, adhesive tape, compression garments, and in some cases, drains. Drains are removed about a week after surgery. Postoperative stitches are removed about seven to 10 days after body lift surgery.
Patients should enlist a trusted family member or friend to help in caretaking the first few days after surgery. While it is important for patients rest at home, they should also walk several times a day to help speed up the recovery process and reduce the risk of blood clots.
Sports and exercise should be avoided until about six weeks post-surgery. Your surgeon will advise you on when you can return to your daily activities and any additional post-operative care measures.
Consultation
The first step in undergoing body sculpting is a consultation with a Mia Aesthetics surgeon. During your consultation, you can discuss your body goals and any fears or concerns you may have. The surgeon will offer his expertise on what procedures will help you achieve the look you desire.

Frequently Asked Questions
Ideal candidates for body sculpting are in good physical health, which will be determined during a full physical checkup by your Mia Aesthetics surgeon. The best candidates are those who have lost a great deal of weight, either through weight-loss surgery (like bariatric surgery) or through a major diet and exercise regimen. Ideally, the patient is close to their ideal weight or has lost most of the weight they intend to lose. Patients with realistic expectations who have stubborn areas of fat can benefit from this procedure. Body sculpting removes any excess skin and then sculpts and tightens skin to fit a patient’s new, smaller body.
